Our first exposure to the genus Chloranthus was a couple of decades ago via Kristin Schleiter’s gift of C. japonica. Since then, largely through Plant Delight’s offerings, we’ve become great fans, as the radially arranged foliage is immediately recognizable and, to us, an archetypal element in shade gardens. This dusky selection was a volunteer seedling, and has impressed all with emerging stygian stems. The foliage eventually fades to a plasticated and corrugated olive green. With it’s large, 6” foliage and 30” height, we suspect some involvement of sessilifolius austrosinensis. Z6 3” pot
